knock and build 2026
A 501C4 project of Seed the Vote Action
Bakersfield, CA (CA-22)
February 13-16, 2026
THE OPPORTUNITY
Seed the Vote Action works to build the number and power of progressive elected officials, while also blocking the far right from taking power in federal elections. We do this by sending volunteers to “battleground” states to doorknock and phonebank. Because we know that long-term change won’t happen only through elections, we send our volunteers to local grassroots organizations that work year-round on social justice issues in working-class communities of color.
Seed the Vote Action will be working alongside the Dolores Huerta Action Fund and Working Families Party in Bakersfield, CA on a deep canvassing program to engage with disengaged working class voters. Bakersfield is home to a large community of immigrants, working-class people, and people severely impacted by federal cuts to healthcare and SNAP. The current representative voted to cut Medicaid, despite the fact that 68% of people in the district receive their healthcare through this critical program. This community – and all of us – deserve better, so we’ll be asking lots of questions and listening deeply to understand how these voters are thinking about politics. We’ll use what we learn to develop more effective ways of talking to people who are “on the fence” and connect with them around our shared goals and values – things like healthcare, well paying jobs, and housing we can afford.
