Prop 50
Trump and Texas Republicans have made an unprecedented power grab to steal congressional seats and rig the 2026 election before voting even begins. Other Republican states are following suit. They want to steal enough seats to control Congress regardless of how the people vote.
This directly threatens our ability to win back the House in 2026 – the biggest opportunity to gain enough power at the federal level to block Trump’s attacks on our immigrant communities, healthcare for working people, and our basic rights & freedoms.
Losing the chance to win in 2026 means more fear, more waking up every day fearing that your or your neighbors will be kidnapped by ICE, more fear that Trump will continue using the National Guard to occupy our communities, more worrying whether you or your family will have healthcare or your social security checks will continue to arrive.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Seed the Vote Action works to build the number and power of progressive elected officials, while also blocking the far right from taking power in federal elections. We do this by sending volunteers to “battleground” states to doorknock and phonebank. Because we know that long-term change won’t happen only through elections, we send our volunteers to local grassroots organizations that work year-round on social justice issues in working-class communities of color.
Seed the Vote Action will be working alongside the Dolores Huerta Action Fund and Working Families Party in Bakersfield, CA on a deep canvassing program to engage with disengaged working class voters. Bakersfield is home to a large community of immigrants, working-class people, and people severely impacted by federal cuts to healthcare and SNAP. The current representative voted to cut Medicaid, despite the fact that 68% of people in the district receive their healthcare through this critical program. This community – and all of us – deserve better, so we’ll be asking lots of questions and listening deeply to understand how these voters are thinking about politics. We’ll use what we learn to develop more effective ways of talking to people who are “on the fence” and connect with them around our shared goals and values – things like healthcare, well paying jobs, and housing we can afford.
