A History of Impact

Founding

Origins and Principles

Since our founding in 2020, Seed the Vote has led 31 volunteer canvassing programs across 10 states over 4 election cycles. We have knocked almost 675,000 doors so far, with no plans of stopping. It is our goal to defeat the Right and their conservative agenda with ideas and community. Each campaign we join is a collaboration between us and local organizations. Their direct relationships and experience inform our strategies and approach for outreach to voters for elections and progressive candidates. And because we believe in a movement for all people, we offer financial aid to cover the costs of travel & lodging for volunteers, to reduce barriers to doorknocking.

Background

Pivoting from Defense to Offense

In 2020, we built a grassroots army that helped to defeat Trump. We recruited and trained over 9,000 volunteers to phone bank and door knock in key states. This included deploying 1,200 volunteers to canvass at the height of the pandemic in Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. That year, Seed the Vote helped frontline organizations meet their ambitious door-knocking goals, utilizing volunteers to reach voters in key swing states where Biden won by a very small margin of votes. In Arizona, for example, our volunteers knocked on 12,000 doors, helping local organizations turn out voters in a state where Biden won by just 10,000 votes.

Recent Efforts

Building Momentum for A Greater Movement

In 2024, we prioritized in-person canvassing and quadrupled the number of canvassers from 2020. That year, we recruited & trained 5,000 canvassers to fill 16,000 shifts, and knocked 522,549 doors across six states alongside local partner organizations. We also signed up 1,470 volunteers to phonebank. And though our efforts to stop Trumpism fell short, we were proud to have contributed to four Senate and two House seat wins.

In 2025, we sent volunteers to help secure big wins in critical races. In a Wisconsin Supreme Court race that led to winning a liberal majority on the court, Seed the Vote helped deliver the largest volunteer operation outside the candidate’s own campaign team. And as Republicans looked to gerrymander and rig congressional district lines to protect their margin of control in the U.S. House of Representatives, we fought back with Prop 50 in California. With over 550 volunteer shifts in 15 counties, Seed the Vote Action knocked 16,846 doors to ensure the ballot proposition passed.

It is these kinds of strategic fights which will level the playing field in the 2026 midterm elections and beyond.
